September. ACCA meets Tallinn School of Economics and Business Administration (Tallinn. Estonia)

On 7 September 2012 Nataliya Vovchuk, Head of ACCA Ukraine, Baltic and Caucasus States visited Jaan Alver, Head of Accounting Department and Chair of Management Accounting, and Lehte Alver, Chair of Financial Accounting, at the Tallinn School of Economics and Business Administration (TSEBA) that is part of the Tallinn University of Technology.

Nataliya, Jaan and Lehte discussed opportunities for future cooperation between ACCA and their institution. In particular, they considered ways to upgrade the academic programme using the ACCA Qualification as a benchmarking qualification in accounting and finance.

During the meeting Jaan and Lehte talked about the history of the institution and the work they are doing, in particular, teaching their students how to think critically and demonstrating the evolution of accounting function. Jaan and Lehte stressed that professional training is the topic issue in Estonia ever since the EU accession.

They also visited the premises of the school, including institution’s modern library. Together with Nataliya, they discussed possibilities for future cooperation in terms of academic materials. ACCA has an experience of cooperation with a number of technical libraries in the region, in line with the global Research and Insight programme.

Jaan and Lehter are the authors of a number of books and research papers on accounting and finance. They have made a large contribution towards IFRS popularisation in Estonia.

Tallinn School of Economics and Business Administration provides business and management education and training to undergraduates, postgraduates, experienced practitioners and researchers. According to Äripäev newspaper, 80% of Estonian top managers are graduates of this institution.
