June. Finance for Business supplement. 9th issue (Kiev. Ukraine)
On 11 June 2012 the ninth issue of Finance for Business, quarterly publication produced jointly by ACCA and newspaper Ekonomicheskie Izvestiya, was published. This issue examined the Conference on Sustainable Development Rio+20, football tournament Euro 2012 and implementation of corporate social responsibility (CSR) in Ukraine.
Natalia Yemchenko, Director of Public Relations and Communications of SKM and ACCA student, was interviewed on the role of CSR in the strategy of her company. Natalia spoke about the main dimensions of CSR activities within her company, such as investments in comfortable working conditions and safety at jobplaces, investments in sustainable development, environmental programs and energy efficiency, and investments in local communities, infrastructure in the regions, education and health.
Henning Drager, Chief Sustainability Officer of BDO Ukraine, spoke about the positive role that CSR can play for Ukraine. Speaking in the spirit of EURO 2012, Henning compared CSR to a tough defender and a proven striker that need to be allowed on the pitch in order to improve Ukraine’s situation on the global arena. He also outlined the possible ways of future of human growth, in anticipation of Rio+20 summit. According to Henning, the idea of green economy and environmental investments can come handy for revival of economic activity that currently faces substantial troubles.
Yaroslav Koval, Marketing vice-president of Carlsberg Ukraine, shared his thoughts on his company’s experience as EURO 2012 sponsor. The tournament should help the company secure the no. 2 place on the national beer market.
Viktor Kovalenko, Head of sustainability services at Ernst & Young Ukraine, spoke about perspectives of environmenta taxation in Ukraine. According to Victor, all environmental fees and charges in Ukraine are fiscal payments, aimed at higher government revenues rather than development of business.
Oksana Olehova, Senior manager of tax and legal consultation department at KPMG Ukraine, told about her company's experience of energy efficiency and mining consultation. Oksana acknowledges increasing interest from Ukrainian companies in getting energy efficiency tax discounts.
Roman Burzakovskiy, Specialist of corporate systems department at IBM Ukraine, outlined the advantages of cloud computing. Implementing such practice can significantly increase productivity and save time for businesses.
