November. Public discussion Talent at the crossroads (Kiev. Ukraine)
On 10 November 2011 ACCA Ukraine together with Business Education Alliance held a public discussion "Talent at the crossroads: new vision of education and career development" at Business Center "Parus", Kiev.
The event gathered representatives of audit, law, IT companies, recruiting agencies, finance qualifications' developers, training centers and universities.

David Woodgate, Chief Executive, Institute of Financial Accountants spoke about professional qualifications and their importance in a modern world.
Lyudmyla Suprun, President of the Ukrainian Peace Fund, spoke about national standards of education, necessity to develop and implement proper legislative acts and to change the instrument of people knowledge assessment - to replace attestation by qualification and to move from overview to actions. Ukrainian Peace Fund considers education as an instrument of changing the world. Also Ms Suprun provided comments on importance of stimulus in the workplace, role of professional organizations in protection of employees’ rights and correspondence between qualifications and salaries.
Oleksandr Orekhov, Director of Educational Programs, EPAM Systems, spoke about how IT qualifications’ receiving influence on the value of each person at the labour marked.
Alla Savchenko, President, BDO Ukraine, spoke about current economic circumstances in Ukraine and worldwide, about importance of financial and IT qualifications, students and their parents’ attitude to qualifications’ receiving and choosing the “own way” – future career, time investment in education, motivation in the workplace.
Oleksiy Grydkovets, Partner, Profiles International Ukraine, commented the gap between the training system in Ukraine and demands of business.
Among questions from the audience were vocational guidance related. A representative of Kiev Business School, Krykunov Mykhail, commented the government control of the profession and the problem of self-regulating organizations in Ukraine which do not perform their function as a “voice of public”. A representative of the National Technical University of Ukraine “Kyiv Polytechnic Institute” asked the panelists to comment the role of education. Olena Velychko, Deputy Director of Methodology of Securities Market Regulation Department of the Securities And Stock Market State Commission, commented the problems take place in a public sector that self-regulating organizations have not accepted duties of specialists professional development, they lobby the interests but do not train. Also a representative of the Chain of pharmacies D.S. commented the gap between universities’ study programs and practical requirements in the pharmaceuticals industry and shared his experience of holding a special training course for their potential employees who just graduated from the universities.
During the event, Business Education Alliance Director, Elena Baryshnikova was congratulated on becoming ACCA Member.
