HMRC aims to cut waiting times
To help it in dealing with the volume of post that it receives, HMRC hopes to improve response times by running a pilot scheme to encourage the use of headings to indicate whether the letters are routine or technical. It is hoped that these ‘signpost headings’ will facilitate allocation of post within HMRC, thus improving the time and adequacy of the response.
Suggested headings have been segregated into primary headings (to summarise the broad content of the letter) and secondary headings (where the matter is more specific or needs technical input) and can be viewed in the related documents area (see left).
HMRC is asking practitioners to adopt these in order to assist them in their fight against the backlog of correspondence.
Please try the initiative and let ACCA know via email if this has made a difference.
