Internal audit network

The Internal Audit Network comprises approximately 1,200 members across the UK, from banking, utilities, health, IT/communications, insurance/investment, local and national government, to manufacturing, industry, engineering and retail. Activities to support its members include:

Events/CPD

The Network presents 6 networking forum events per year in conjunction with the Institute of Internal Auditors - UK and Ireland (IIA). These take place at ACCA's head offices at 29 Lincoln's Inn Fields and start at 9AM to minimise disruption to the working day.

Attendance at these events is free but, as places are limited, please book in advance using the following link https://events.accaglobal.com. These events will constitute verifiable Continuing Professional Development (CPD) if the content is relevant to an individual's personal development plan.

ACCA UK also organises an annual internal audit conference. In 2013, this will take place in central London on 16 May on the theme of Time For The Mouse To Roar.

E-bulletin

An e-bulletin is published four times per year and e-mailed automatically to Internal Audit Network members. The inaugural e-bulletin was launched in October 2007 and contained news and feature articles on key issues affecting the internal audit sector, as well as the latest news on relevant ACCA activities, publications and events. To see the archive of internal audit e-bulletins, please see the Publications section.

Thinking of moving into internal audit?

Do you need to learn about Internal Audit or improve your technique?  Do you work in Internal Audit and need to demonstrate your CPD?  Are you training someone on Internal Audit?  If you answered yes to any of these questions and are an ACCA member, then you may be interested in ACCA’s Internal Audit Virtual Learning Centre.  It contains a section called ‘Learning About Internal Audit’ and its aim is to supplement the International Standards for the Professional Practice of Internal Auditing with articles and guides that are easy to read and outline what internal auditing is like in practice and the pitfalls that often arise.

When you start off in the profession, you need to learn how to do an audit and this is explained under Guidance for Auditors.  This section covers all the elements of the audit cycle (planning, fieldwork, reporting, follow up) plus the essential but often overlooked areas of relationship management and assignment team management.  It is useful for beginners and for those developing their knowledge.  For each subject you can read an article, refer to a concise Practitioner’s Guide which covers the aims, principles and hints & tips, and then practice your understanding by answering 5 multiple choice questions.

A section on Guidance for the Audit Management Team covers assurance planning, assurance reporting, managing the department and working with other assurance providers.  Each of these areas contains an article, Practitioner’s Guide and quiz.

A new section on Guidance for Audit Committee Members is being populated.

Within the introduction there is also a Brief Guide to Internal Auditing which provides an overview and also some useful reminders.

For access to this new resource, login in to your myACCA account (https://portal.accaglobal.com) and select the E-learning Gateway link. Then select 'ACCA Virtual Learning Centre' then select “Internal Audit” from the menu page. This resource is only available to ACCA members and is free of charge.

Contacts

The Network is guided by an elected Panel, which works closely with a permanent member of staff at ACCA. One of the roles of the Panel is to assist ACCA in making representations to and influencing regulatory bodies in the sector. We would like to enlist the help of the wider Network in meeting this task. If you feel that you have the expertise to assist in this area and would like to get more involved, please do get in touch.
