ACCA has worked closely with Siemens for a number of years and in 2001 ACCA awarded Siemens Platinum Approved status for the quality of the training and support which Siemens provides for its ACCA trainees.
Adi Stephan (Senior Training Officer) is passionate about training and development." Professional qualifications have a place in Siemens. ACCA's accreditation provides us with a structure and the support to do this", says Adi Stephan
The Certified Accounting Technician (CAT) scheme started in 2001 with 19 CAT students who where recruited straight from school as part of a Siemens initiative to create employment opportunities for young South Africans.
They took their first computer based exams in 2002 and achieved a remarkable 98% pass rate. The first group of students is expected to complete the CAT programme in 2004, and a further 15 students have been recruited in two intakes this year, making a total of 34 Siemens' employees now studying with ACCA in South Africa.
ACCA has another link with Siemens. When ACCA decided to launch a dedicated contact centre for members and students worldwide, Siemens was the successful bidder for the contract to provide the technology for the service. The system provided by Siemens puts ACCA at the forefront of inbound call centres.
Siemens is one of the few employers who took up the Minister of Labour's call to companies to participate in Learnerships. It has already signed up 34 learners on the ACCA Certified Accounting Technician Learnership.
