ACCA Student honoured with 2011 Outstanding e-Filing Volunteer Award by IRAS

ACCA student Ms Priyanka Natasha Dubey was awarded the 2011 Outstanding e-Filing Volunteer Award at the recent VES Appreciation Ceremony. This is her third consecutive award since 2009, and Ms Dubey is not showing sign of stopping. "Helping citizens to e-file their taxes and sharing my knowledge of the tax e-filing system with them was the best way to spend my weekend", said Ms Dubey; who was there with her father to receive the award from the Inland Revenue Authority of Singapore (IRAS).

ACCA Singapore has supported the e-Filing Service initiative by IRAS since 2007. Mr James Khor, Deputy Comissioner of IRAS, said that the e-filing platform has gained increasing popularity since it was introduced in 1998. This service saw a record 96% of taxpayers using the service this year. More than 30 ACCA students helped out at the various e-filing centres around the island, spending between 4 to 6 hours per day every weekend between 2 to 6pm in March and April to help citizens complete their returns electronically.

"The most fulfilling part of being an e-filing volunteer is to see smiling faces of citizens after helping them with the service", added Ms Dubey. This sums up the sentiments of many volunteers present at the ceremony, with a few also receiving a long service award for helping in the annual event for more than 5 years.

ACCA and CAT students may volunteer with IRAS by registering their necessary particulars via their website opens in a new window in February each year.
