12th Student Orientation Day

300 new students attended the 12th Student Orientation Day, a half-yearly event which provides an opportunity for new students to get to know ACCA personally. Attendees were briefed on important matters pertaining to their studies, and they also received a compact disc (CD) which contains a welcome message by the Chief Executive of ACCA, Helen Brand.

Also on the CD are important resources for students as it contains information on the syllabus of the respective qualifications, the Student Handbook, guidelines on exam matters, information on membership, important deadlines and other regulations and procedures. The highly interactive session – held at the NTUC auditorium – ended with a Q&A session when many students took the opportunity to seek clarifications on the progression and other matters.

Students who were not able to attend the event may still collect the CD from the Exam and Student Registry (ESR) office at 12 Aljunied Road #04-02 KH Plaza @ Aljunied, tel: 67449865.

Corporate Visit to BDO LLP

The student society (AISS) recently organised the first corporate visit for the year to BDO LLP – the fifth largest accounting and consulting organisation in Singapore. About 40 students had the opportunity to understand the culture as well working practices of the largest professional services organization outside the big four accounting firms.

The visit was kicked off with an introduction of the operational structure by the audit partner Mr. William Ng. This was followed by brief presentations from the various departmental heads of audit and assurance, business restructuring and risk advisory, just to name a few. Students were then treated to a delightful afternoon tea, and also had the opportunity to stand shoulder to shoulder with partners and staff in a warm and friendly networking session.

Many found the visit an enriching and informative experience, and all participants felt they now have a better understanding of the practice environment. They believe that this will be crucial information as they prepare their resumes and job applications for their future employers.

Look out for more visits – details can be found at the http://aisssg.weebly.com/april.html webpage.
