Romania events

31st of March 2008, Bucharest - Baker Tilly becomes the first company in Romania to be Platinum Accredited besides the Big 4

As the Director of the Romanian Baker Tilly office is an FCCA himself, he fully appreciates the benefits of the ACCA Qualification. After last year they have become Gold Approved Employer for Trainee Development, at the beginning of 2008 Baker Tilly introduced a new policy for their employees whereby they fully support their employees during their ACCA studies. After a monitoring period, ACCA was able to award Baker Tilly the Platinum level of Approval on 31st of March 2008, thus making it the first mid-tier accounting company to become approved at this level.

August 2008 “Summer party”, Bucharest

Almost 250 ACCA members and students gathered at the beginning of August to celebrate summer in Bucharest, Sofia and Chisinau – the capital cities of Romania, Bulgaria and Moldova – three countries where the ACCA Qualification is very much in demand. A highly anticipated set of events, the ACCA Summer Parties allow members and students to meet and network in a more informal manner.
The theme of this year’s summer parties was “cinema night” and for all three parties the movie Rogue trader was projected on a large screen. The idea was enthusiastically received by attendants as they found that the script of the movie - based on a true story of the man who bankrupted the oldest commercial bank in London, Barings Bank - was an interesting presentation on professionalism and ethics.

High-level ACCA delegation attending the biennial congress of the Body of Expert and Licensed Accountants of Romania

Richard Aitken Davies, ACCA President, Robin Jarvis, Head of SMP and Andreia Manea, Head of ACCA Romania, Bulgaria and Moldova attended Congress of the Romanian Accountancy Profession “The Accountancy Profession:  between Regulation and Public Interest” on 1-2 September 2008.The ACCA president had a speech in the panel National and International in the accountancy profession – the European context, and Robin Jarvis, Head of SMP had a speech in IFRS for SME – activities and results.

The biennial congress of the accountancy profession in Romania was attended by approximately 1200 delegates from various Romanian regions and 150 foreign representatives of other accounting associations. Because ACCA attended this event at the highest level was a re-iteration of the cooperation with the local accountants’ body and also increased the visibility of ACCA on the market.


November 2008
ACCA becomes members of the Association of Economic Faculties in Romania

The ACCA’s application was approved in the General Assembly of the Association of Economic Faculties in Romania in November 2008. ACCA is now an associate member of the AFER (as compared to founding members who are the ones that established the association), status which gives it full rights in AFER.

The Association of Economic Faculties in Romania is a non-profit association established by the universities, academies, faculties, departments in Romania that develop educational programs and research programs in the economic area – in Romania it functions in accordance to Government ordinance from the year 2000, year of establishment. Its goals are to initial legislative proposals that target the increase in quality of the scientific and professional education and research, promoting the professional, scientific and social interests of the academic community in the economic area, increase cooperation in areas of mutual interest, initiating cooperation with similar associations in Romania and abroad, insuring update of all members. For this, the AFER has the following main activities: insuring a forum for debate on curricula, associations and research management, organising and attending conferences and other national or international scientific events, creating and managing a database on teachers of economic disciplines, awarding excellence in the field of teaching professional disciplines. The ACCA’s membership in AFER is indefinite.

 

December 2008, Bucharest - ACCA has sponsored the National Economy Olympics

At the beginning of December 2008 ACCA has partnered with ASE to sponsor the national stage of the Economy Olympics. 40 students attended this phase and ACCA has provided the materials for attendants.


10 December 2008, Bucharest - ACCA day in ASE - Business Game

ACCA in cooperation with Mazars Romania have organised a special event for the students of the largest economic university in Romania, The Academy of Economic Studies. Using the ACCA Business Game the event was advertised as an opportunity for students to get in touch with real business decisions, real competition and opportunities to gain an international qualification, while trying to stage a pop concert. All attendants were very happy to have participated in the game. This was the second edition of the ACCA day in ASE (the first one was in March 2008).  

 

19 December 2008, Bucharest - ACCA Christmas party

The already traditional “last ACCA event of the year” took place in Bucharest on 19th of December to celebrate a good year for ACCA as well as to enjoy the Christmas atmosphere and to look forward to the New Year. ACCA members, their partners and their children enjoyed the magicians, reindeers, play and presents from Santa Claus. Pictures from the event.
