SME financing - 20 March 2007 - Quetta
Financing remains a key area of concern for SMEs in Pakistan , and this workshop was an initiative taken with the intention of facilitating SME financing in Quetta. The workshop was jointly organized by ACCA Pakistan , SMEDA and SBP at Directors Lounge, SBP, Quetta Cantt. The workshop was attended by around forty participants. The Provincial Chief of SMEDA, Mr. Bakhtiar Khan, and the Regional Chief of SBP, Mr. Sajid, were also present at the event.
The main topics covered by the trainer, Mr. Malik Mirza ACCA, were as follows:

- How to maximize internal financing through working capital management
- Advantages and disadvantages of borrowing
- How to approach a banker?
- Career profile / CV
- How to prepare a business plan
- Contents of business plan and illustrations
Majority of the audience was composed of managers and officers from HBL, UBL, NBP, ABL, PICIC Commercial Bank, Zarai Taraqiatai Bank, MCB, Bank Alfalah, Meezan Bank and Bank Al-Habib. The SME owners present at the event came from different sectors including rice husking, fresh fruits and vegetables, marbles, mining, dry fruits, cold storage, dairy, petroleum and agriculture. A corporate law associate was also present at the workshop. The trainer managed well to cater to the requirements of the diverse audience present at the workshop. His presentation was very well received by the participants. The trainer facilitated frequent one to one discussions of SME owners with bank representatives. The SME owners told their problems related to financing and banks responded with their viewpoints. Two role-play (borrower and bank manger) activities were also performed by people from the audience to examine the practical aspect of SME financing.
All this helped the two parties in understanding each other better. The questions and answers continued through out the session.After the trainer concluded his session, Mr. Sajid, Regional Chief SBP, delivered his presentation emphasizing the role of SBP for promotion of SME Financing. His presentation was followed by presentations of different local banks on their SME financing products.
