ACCA Pakistan was invited as a guest speaker to SMEDA workshops “Trade in Services” for Service Sector SMEs. These workshops were held in Lahore and Karachi in Nov-Dec 2006. In Lahore , Dr. Afra Sajjad, Head of Policy Development ACCA Pakistan and in Karachi Rameez Uddin Khan, Business Development Manager, ACCA Pakistan spoke about the role of accountants as a service provider to SMEs. The workshops were attended by a large number of SME owners and managers. The main objective of the workshops was to through discussion generate ideas and recommendations that could be used in updating SMEDA book “How to Approach a Bank”. ACCA Pakistan speakers informed the SME owners and managers about how ACCA members, affiliates, students and CAT students and technicians can positively contribute to the development of SMEs by acting as advisors on finance, accounting, tax and many management related areas. The workshops were also addressed by Mr. Sultan Tiwana, General Manager Business Development Services SMEDA and Mr. Hassanein Javed, Manager Financial Services.

ACCA Pakistan participated in the ‘Bright Ideas' workshop for young entrepreneurs conducted by Shell Tameer on February 27 2007 in Karachi . ACCA Pakistan is working on the translation of SME literature in Urdu. ACCA Pakistan has also conducted a comprehensive qualitative research on ‘Access to Finance for Female Entrepreneurs in Pakistan '. A number of female entrepreneurs and finance providers were interviewed for this project. The research report will be published soon.
