Graduate Profiles - Keith Egan

'I chose to study ACCA primarily for the fact it has world recognised accreditation and also the flexibility it offers to students'

RSM Farrell Grant Sparks - Keith Egan, ACCA affiliate, GMIT graduate

I returned to Ireland in late 2009 having spent time working and travelling abroad. I returned to GMIT to complete a Bachelor in Accountancy (Hons) in 2010, after which I attended an ACCA professional course part-time. I saw this as an ideal opportunity to further enhance my career opportunities while also achieving a globally recognised accountancy qualification.

I joined the Restructuring and Insolvency Department of RSM Farrell Grant Sparks as a Trainee Accountant in July 2011 where I have gained extensive experience in a broad range of accounting, management and operational aspects in practice.

Since joining RSM Farrell Grant Sparks I have gained invaluable experience through the well established graduate training programme. I enjoy the general ethos of the firm in which trainees are actively encouraged to engage with managers, directors and partners on a daily basis and draw on their extensive wealth of knowledge and experience.

There are frequent social and sporting events throughout the year which generously align the work and life balance. I was also impressed by the focus that RSM Farrell Grant Sparks had on achieving graduate success and the support programme offered to trainees studying for their accountancy qualification, particularly the study leave.

As the firm is part of RSM International, which is a worldwide network of independent accounting and consulting firms, there is the possibility of working on international assignments and indeed for secondment opportunities to other firms within the RSM network. I chose to study ACCA primarily for the fact it is a world recognised accreditation but also the flexibility it offers to students during the course of the exam process. I was fortunate to receive a number of exemptions from the ACCA and together with my success in

the professional course, I sat my final exam last summer which I am delighted to say I achieved.

I know that having the ACCA Qualification, coupled with my practical work experience, acquired since joining RSM Farrell Grant Sparks, will give me a strong platform in which to achieve my career objectives.
