'I chose ACCA because the qualification is internationally recognised, respected across many industries and provides a strong business and accounting bac kground'
State Street – Colin Byrne, ACCA member, NUI Galway graduate
I graduated from National University of Ireland, Galway in 2007 with a BComm Degree and began my career with State Street in 2008, working as a fund accountant in the NAV department.
My employer was very supportive of my decision to pursue an ACCA Qualification, providing financial support as well as flexible exam and study leave. The training department were very efficient in dealing with all the exam related admin which allowed me to focus on passing my exams. State Street is also an approved employer for trainee development, which meant that all of my on-the-job experience counted towards achieving the practical experience requirement.
I chose ACCA because the qualification is internationally recognised, respected across many industries and provides a strong business and accounting background. The flexibility of having two exam sittings a year was very attractive and allowed me to achieve my qualification while maintaining a healthy work/life/study balance. Since completing my studies I have been promoted to a supervisor within the NAV accounting department. I feel that the skills I learnt during my ACCA training are highly regarded by my employer and will continue to benefit me in the future. My four years with State Street has provided me with excellent experience in the financial services industry and I am very grateful to my employer for the support shown to me in achieving my qualification.
