'I chose ACCA because of its international recognition, prestige and most importantly, the career opportunities'
Accenture - Ciarán O'Reilly, ACCA member, DCU graduate
I graduated from Dublin City University in 2004 with a BA in International Business & Languages (French/Spanish - major in Spanish and Finance). Having studied Accounting for my Leaving Certificate and again as part of my degree, I decided to pursue a career in Accounting and Finance. After a 6 month contract on the journal processing team at Accenture's European Service Centre, I then joined the Finance and Accounting team as an analyst for the Nordic geography in November 2004. It quickly became clear to me that a professional accounting qualification such as ACCA was necessary to progress my career to the next level.
I chose ACCA because of its international recognition, prestige and most importantly, the career opportunities having such a qualification on my CV would open up for me. While I found the balance between work and study to be quite challenging, it was made manageable by the support offered by Accenture. I received paid time off for study and exam days, as well as access to internal study groups. These study groups were invaluable and a genuine real life example of Accenture's core value of Best People.
My progression through the ACCA exams led to my promotion to Finance and Accounting Specialist in early 2009, and upon completion of ACCA I was further promoted to Senior Specialist. Since then, I have participated in Accenture's Leadership Development Program - "Driving High Performance", which again is representative of Accenture's dedication to developing the talents of its workforce. Armed with ACCA and the ongoing support of Accenture (through its focus on Best People), I feel I am in the best possible position to be in full control of my future career.
