'The ACCA Qualification is recognised worldwide, and this is important to me as I hope to travel and gain international experience in the future'
Russell Brennan Keane - Alice Heffernan, ACCA student, IT Carlow graduate
After my Leaving Certificate, I completed a BA (Hons) in Accounting at IT Carlow and graduated in 2011. I thoroughly enjoyed my college course, and realised that a career in accountancy was for me.
I chose to study ACCA as it is an internationally recognised qualification, and one I knew had the potential to open doors to many career opportunities for me. The ACCA Qualification is recognised worldwide, and this is important to me as I hope to travel and gain international experience in the future. Based on my degree, I achieved exemptions from nine papers, leaving me with five ACCA exams to complete. The flexibility offered by ACCA allows students the opportunity to sit exams twice a year, while fulfilling a demanding role.
In 2011, I joined a three year graduate training programme at Russell Brennan Keane. In joining the Russell Brennan Keane team, I was acutely aware that I would gain a vast range of experience across a variety of areas in a mid-sized practice. Since joining, my knowledge has increased most notably in the areas of Accounts Preparation, Audit and Taxation. The network of support and training I have experienced has contributed positively to both my skills and confidence.
I aim to complete my exams by June 2013, and if successful, this would allow me to dedicate the final year of my contract entirely to furthering my professional experience. On completion of both my training and exams, I look forward to becoming an ACCA member and enjoying the many opportunities it will bring.
