ACCA Community Day 2014
2014 Community Day was successfully held at Chater Road Sunday Pedestrian Zone in Central on 12 January 2014, involving over 1,000 participants from accountancy firms, multi-national companies, corporations and institutions. Coming together for the exciting rickshaw race competition, they illustrated the rich heritage of Hong Kong and helped strengthen the links between the financial industries and the community.
This year's event raised over HK$1.2 million, a record high, with donations going to Asbury Methodist Social Service, Hong Kong Alzheimer's Disease Association and Project Concern Hong Kong. Since 1997, the ACCA Charitable Foundation Limited has raised a total of over HK$14 million through its signature annual event and helped many charitable organisations to support society's needy in past years.
Delivering remarks at the opening ceremony, Roy Tsang, Chairman of ACCA Hong Kong said, "The global business environment was ever-changing in 2013. Our members remain upbeat and meet the diverse needs in all sectors by expanding their capabilities globally in regard to the increased internationalisation of the markets. ACCA continues to support people of all backgrounds, including accounting and financial professionals, through our strong network and high level of qualification."
Tsang added, "Under our theme of 'a Magical Journey to Create a World of Love', we appreciate the overwhelming support from our members who not only demonstrate a high standard of dedication to the accountancy profession, but also contribute to the society with love, care and mutual help. We are also grateful for the concerted efforts of all the sponsors, business enterprises, charities and volunteers for their contributions to this charitable event."
Officiating at the event for a seventh straight year was guest of honour Matthew Cheung Kin-chung, GBS, JP, Secretary for Labour and Welfare. Cheung said, "The sustainability of a caring society depends on the success of the tripartite partnership and joint efforts of the Government, business community and civil society. ACCA Community Day 2014 is a classic example of collaboration between the business sector and NGOs in building a caring and compassionate society." He continued, "I salute you all, members of ACCA Hong Kong, for your strong sense of compassion and kind-heartedness."
