Recognition of the ACCA Qualification

Our Members, who are known as Chartered Certified Accountants, are employed in industry, financial services, the public sector, or in public practice. With statutory recognition in the UK and Ireland we have the authority to license our members to work as registered auditors. In the UK, we also authorise our members to undertake insolvency work. Outside the UK, we are recognised under the EU's Mutual Recognition Directive and in many countries around the world.

ACCA has had a long and successful history in Hong Kong since the establishment of its branch in January 1950. ACCA and the Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants (HKICPA) have an Agreement for Recognition Arrangements (ARA).  The agreement outlines the steps to be followed by ACCA and HKICPA members seeking membership of the other body and covers students who enrolled in ACCA on or after 16 August 2004.  It applies to ACCA members who have qualified in the UK and Hong Kong.  Transition arrangements for students who enrolled on or before 15 August 2004 have been agreed seperately.

In employers' eyes, ACCA is regarded as a prestigious, high standard and relevant international qualification in accounting and business. This recognition will certainly provide you with the opportunity to fulfill your career goals and aspirations regardless of your background.

ACCA is also the most popular international accounting qualification in Mainland China.  ACCA is known as a 'global passport' to international accounting and finance. Currently, we are actively working with CICPA to explore mutual exemptions between the two qualifications. ACCA has now nearly 63,000 members and students in Hong Kong and the Mainland.

Hear what employers say about ACCA:

Dell Canada Inc.
Ashton Dallsingh, Director of Finance
"The ACCA professional qualification uniquely combines technical ability with a 'big picture' view of accountancy. This approach enables individuals to develop careers in strategic management as well as the option to move into technical areas such as audit and risk management. Either way, ACCA members are equipped to provide leadership and add value to any organisation."

DHL Express (HK) Ltd
Robert Wong, Vice President, Chief Finance Officer
"DHL requires qualified accountants in our organisation worldwide and of course in Hong Kong that are capable of handling a variety of financial and accounting activies in difference levels and environments which range from strategic and senior management level to the supporting financial functions. ACCA's broad range of knowledge in qualification ensures that we can place the right finance people in the right roles in our organisation."

Maxim's Caterers Ltd
Keith Siu, General Manager - Finance, IT, Projects & Engineering, Group Human Resources
"It's vital for us to stay ahead of the competition and our ACCA finance professionals are an important ingredient in our success. Knowing they have the latest finance knowledge makes a real difference to our business - thanks to their training, they stay a step ahead and anticipate our needs."
