Australian tax and company law

As part of our efforts to ensure that ACCA members in Australia are in the best position to demonstrate their professional competence and secure employment, we are pleased to confirm an arrangement with Deakin University for ACCA members to study appropriate university units in Principles of Income Tax Law (MLC301) and Corporations Law (MLC203) as single subject units.  Members with undergraduate qualifications have the alternative option of studying these units at postgraduate level (MLC703 Principles of Income Tax and MLM731 Corporations Law).

While all ACCA members have completed studies in taxation and company law as part of their ACCA qualification, it is now a standard localisation requirement in many countries for new entrants to the national accounting profession to demonstrate current understanding of the local legal environment in taxation and corporations law. This is an expectation of employers and regulators and is part of the requirements to be a registered auditor or a registered taxation agent. Similarly, many corporate employers will make completion of such studies a requirement of employment.

Members who wish to undertake such studies should be aware that they will need to have their prior law studies (undertaken as part of the ACCA qualification) assessed before enrolment. Courses can be completed online using Deakin Studies Online (DSO) and iLectures or face-to-face at the Burwood Campus of Deakin University in Melbourne. You should be able to complete both units in one Trimester (over 12 weeks) and will receive a formal results notification from the University.

For initial enquiries please contact:

Melbourne Campus at Burwood - email or phone +61 3 9244 6555

Geelong Campus at Waurn Ponds - email or phone +61 3 5227 1277

Information regarding the online application process for single subject (non-award course) and fees.

Deakin University is a well respected Australian university, fully accredited by government authorities and the accounting profession in Australia.
