ACCA Careers 2011

Growing business services is a key agenda under the nation’s Economic Transformation Programme (ETP). Identified to become a catalyst in Malaysia’s transformation into a high income economy, the business services sector has a unique role to play in driving the competitiveness of a wide range of industries by offering differentiated worldclass IT outsourcing, accounting and other related services.

This leads to rising demands for professional accountants. To support the government's initiatives in fulfilling the growing prospects, ACCA (the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants) once again organised ACCA Careers, an exclusive career fair that targets accountancy and finance professionals and graduates, especially ACCA members, affiliates and students. Held from 11.00am to 5.00 pm on 1 October 2011, at Hotel Istana Kuala Lumpur, ACCA Careers 2011 was touted to be the largest accounting and finance career fair in Malaysia.

With the theme 'Accountants for Business Transforming the Finance Landscape', ACCA Careers 2011 was a one-stop career development platform with the dual aim to connect the next wave of highperforming accounting and finance graduates and young professionals with leading employers while providing opportunities, support, services and guidance for qualified professionals and graduates to continuously realise their career aspirations. Prominent and leading employers were provided with the platform to showcase exciting job opportunities for various levels of accounting and finance positions.

In her welcoming remarks at the opening ceremony, Jennifer Lopez, Country Head, ACCA Malaysia, said "Securing the right talent is one of the biggest challenges finance function faces. The best way for finance teams to generate growth, keep costs to a minimum and provide maximum value to their organisations is by systematically identifying, developing, deploying and retaining those who make a significant difference and contribution to the organisation’s success. With the aim to ensure the talent pipeline is continuously flowing, ACCA once again organised Malaysia’s largest accounting and finance career fair."

The platinum participating employers at the fair were Maybank, OCBC Bank Malaysia Bhd, Birmingham City University and DRB-HICOM.

The gold participating employers were BASF Malaysia Sdn Bhd, Ernst & Young, Hewlett-Packard Multimedia Sdn Bhd, IBM Malaysia Sdn Bhd, KPMG, NOL Global Services Centre Sdn Bhd, PETRONAS, SJ Grant Thornton, SunwayTES and the Institute of Internal Auditors Malaysia.

Another 26 organisations and corporations also had booths at the fair in the silver and bronze categories.

"We are pleased that employers have continuously found ACCA Careers to be one of the best channels to access the right finance talents for their organisation, while professionals, graduates and students found that the concurrent sessions such as ACCA Members Talk entitled Bridging the Expectation Gap in Finance Professionals with guest speaker Johan Mahmood Merican, CEO, Talent Corporation, ACCA Affiliates Networking Session on Soft Skills and Career Information Talks to be informative and relevant for charting a successful career in accounting and finance." concludes Lopez.
