UiTM Platinum Status

ACCA Awards UiTM with Approved Learning Partner-Student Tuition, Platinum Status

The Department of Professional Accounting Studies under the Faculty of Accountancy, Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) has been granted Platinum approval-the highest level of accreditation from ACCA for its professional accountancy tuition programmes. The award presentation event was presided by Y.B. Dato' Saifuddin Abdullah, Deputy Minister of Higher Education II,  Y.Bhg. Tan Sri Datuk Arsyad Ayub, the Father of ACCA who is also UiTM very own Pro Chancellor and Mr Neil Stevenson, ACCA Executive Director-Brand.

The granting of Platinum status has put UiTM on the world map and is an endorsement for UiTM to stand tall with other world class learning institutions.

UiTM history with ACCA dates back to the 1960s. The then Institut Teknologi MARA (ITM) was the first learning institution in Malaysia to offer ACCA tuition. ITM first director (now UiTM Pro Chancellor Tan Sri Datuk Arsyad Ayub) bestowed a legacy to Malaysia when he introduced ACCA courses at ITM. His pioneering move enabled Malaysians wishing to become professional accountant, the opportunity to study in Malaysia for the first time. He had the vision of producing professional accountants long before Malaysia's Economic Transformation Programme forecast for 60,000 professional accountants by 2020.

The Faculty of Accountancy has since then carried the torch of this Man of Vision and gave birth to the Department of Professional Accounting Studies. Over the years, the department has flourished into a remarkable hub for professional accounting programmes.

'We are honoured to receive the prestigious Platinum status awarded by ACCA. This accolade substantiates that we have the platform to champion our students in becoming professional graduates. UiTM would like to acknowledge the teaching team who has put in unceasing effort and abyssal dedication in providing high quality tuition and material. Despite our enthusiasm to pursue research university status, we have never forgotten the roots of our existence. Teaching will always be our forte and close to our hearts', commented Dato' Prof. Ir. Sahol Hamid Abu Bakar, Vice Chancellor of UiTM.

Neil Stevenson, ACCA Executive Director-Brand, added that, 'Partnerships such as that with UiTM, is one of the most important cornerstones behind ACCA's ability to continue to flourish and produce qualified ACCA graduates with talent, drive and ambition in Malaysia. These graduates armed with accounting and finance knowledge, skills and professional values needed by all organisations regardless of sector or country are a testament to the power of collaborative partnership and are the best advertisement that both ACCA and UiTM could possibly have'.

Undoubtedly, the prestigious accolade would not have been achieved without the perpetual diligence and profound passion of all the staff and lecturers of the Department of Professional Accounting Studies. On top of consistently achieving exam results targets set by ACCA, meeting or exceeding worldwide pass rates, the department was brimming with pride and joy when a number of students were awarded the ACCA and CAT, Malaysian and World Prize Winners. As UiTM produces more and more world class professional workforce, the profile of our nation will be rising higher and higher in the eyes of the world.
