Council meeting - September 2010

Highlights from 16 September

06 Oct 2010

Council held its Annual Meeting on the afternoon of Thursday 16 September 2010.

Prior to the meeting, the 105th Annual General Meeting of ACCA took place in the Long Room at 29 Lincoln's Inn Fields. The event was broadcast live on the ACCA website. Members voting at the AGM gave overwhelming support to the various resolutions before the meeting; the minutes of the AGM will be circulated to all members in the November/December 2010 edition of Accounting and Business.

At the Annual Council Meeting, Council chose ACCA's officers for the coming year. ACCA's new president is Mark Gold, and he will be supported by Dean Westcott (deputy president) and Barry Cooper (vice president).

Council also welcomed five new members whose election was declared at the AGM - Matilda Crossman (Romania), Kenneth Henry (US), Ladislav Hornan (UK), Mark Millar (UK) and Kholeka Mzondeki (South Africa).

There are now 16 different nationalities represented on ACCA's 36-member Council (up from 14 in 2009), thus reflecting the increasing diversity of the organisation as a whole.

Council took a number of other decisions at its Annual Meeting:

  • It approved Council standing orders for 2010-2011, in accordance with the bye-laws.
  • It made a number of non-Council member appointments to standing committees.
  • It agreed to re-appoint Council member Brian McEnery as a director of CCAB Ltd.
  • It agreed a Council work plan and a set of objectives for the Council year 2010-2011.

The next meeting of Council is on 27 November, which is immediately after the 2010 meeting of the International Assembly.
