ACCA Ireland hosted its first Employer Conference in Dublin on 10 June.
The event, which welcomed delegates from across many employment sectors, featured speeches by individuals from Accenture, Deloitte, Baker Tilly Ryan Glennon and Microsoft Ireland on a range of themes, including:
In his speech, Stephen Priddy, ACCA director of technical policy and research, stated how SMEs represent as much as 95% of all enterprises in OECD countries; they account for two-thirds of employment, and are the main source of new job creation.
He stressed that the policy response to the current economic situation must therefore be sensitive to the needs of small business: 'There is an issue of power and powerlessness for those businesses outside the listed sector. Small business owners invariably have similar needs to consumers and use mortgages, overdrafts, credit cards to finance their business and with similar levels of financial literacy.'
